I agree last year was a headache and I take responsibility for that, but I want to avoid that again this year. Is anyone traveling for Labor Day that wouldn't be able to make the draft at its current time? The only person I know of is my Dad.

How many family members are you signing up? I hope your dad won't cry as much as your brother. The only good thing about all of your North Division fans are... I don't want any Packers, Vikings and Lions. It will be a gold rush with all of you cheeseheads going for Bubba Franks, Vernhand Morency, Tatum (tater) Bell and Mike Furrey. Save some good players for the rest of us!

Anyhow. Here's a question for the commisioner/soccer. Are we going to have two divisions in the league, or, an unbalanced schedule? Me or Soyner can possibly send what we are doing in another league regarding how to tweak the setup so some team doesn't get to play cupcakes all year while other teams have to match up against the top teams twice.

1) how are we deciding draft order?

2) who do we send the money to? (and how much)

Actually Dusty I was thinking about that today: including me there are 4 direct family members (me, Dad, 2 brothers) and my uncle (who was #12)! So that means that Jedi's family members account for 42% of the teams!

Yeah they can have all the Packers. My Dad's been drinking the Packers Kool-Aid and thinks they're going to win the division this year! But I got dibs on Grossman in the 2nd round!

Soy:
1) Yahoo determines the draft 30 minutes before our draft time.
2) I'll be taking money again this year. I think we're doing $10. Last year we used PayPal, so I'll post my email address in the [10] board.

yeah, the draft order will be randomized 30 minutes before the draft by the system.

yahoo won't let us set up conferences otherwise i'd have no problem setting up 2 conferences of 6 teams or something like that.  i guess we could use yahoo to help with the draft, free agents, trades, weekly rosters, and set up a separate schedule for the actual match-up.  And, i'm sure Roop has the space to host a page with the schedule and weekly results.  i think it might be too close to draft day to try to throw that together, tho.  send me a PM with what you guys are doing anyway.  i've got nothing to do, really, all day every day so maybe i can get something together.  if i can't get it together at least 3 days before the draft, tho, i don't want to do it.  it might just be too confusing for everyone, especially jedi's family that likely isn't following this thread.

as for the draft day, i don't think we're going to find a time that works for everyone.  i'm just going to leave it as it is (sept 1), even tho its on a Saturday in the middle of holiday weekend.  trying to get 12 people together at one time without being able to communicate to many of them is quite difficult.  so far, tho, the only person that most likely won't be able to make it Jedi's dad.  and, it pains me to say it, he's welcome to all the Packers he can fit onto his roster this year .  So, unless we get a bunch more people saying it won't work, we're going to stay with it since Yahoo isn't very nice to 'free' leagues in regards to scheduling draft times.  just make sure your Pop pre-ranks his draft picks if he can't make it.

No we're not Mormons! WTF is that question?!

Soc, whatever you do, I can keep my family informed so don't worry about that. I'm also cool with leaving the time where it is cause like you said getting 12 people together at a time that's convenient for ALL is tough. So I'll tell my Dad to pre-rank his players since he'll be on vacation in Maine that weekend. Maybe I'll tell him to bring his laptop and do the draft "on the road".

What do you guys think about determining the draft order ahead of time? Yahoo does allow our commissioner to set the draft order. That way, we can all prepare for the draft and we'll have an idea of where we'll be picking. This website will randomly determine the draft order and email everyone in the league with the results. Since Soc can see everyone's email address, this shouldn't be a problem.

What do you guys think?

i don't mind doing it, but i'm not really planning my draft past the 1st round anyway.  So, it doesn't help me much there.  anyone else want to do it?

In our other league, we actually have podcasts and a real live draft with names in hats. It might be fun to record (video) all 12 names in a hat and draw them out, post it with youtube and have an order well ahead of the draft.

Personally, I like knowing if I'm going to be 2nd pick or 12th pick earlier than 30 minutes before the draft.

It's a joke. Your family is like the Gramatica's of Fantasy Football.

Was that a better example?

I talked with my brothers and one of them can't make the draft. So that makes my Dad and one of my brothers that can't make the Sept. 1st draft.

Just letting everyone know...

I'll keep you posted. I know that my Dad will still stay in, but one of brothers might drop if he can't make the draft. He hasn't said that, but I'm assuming that will be the case.

I just have to put this out there to make sure the topic is brought up, BUT sometimes when a lot of family members or friends are in the same league there is a possibility of them getting together at the end and helping each other out to split money or help defeat someone. (example: funnel players to a team)

I don't have a problem with a bunch of family members playing as long as we can see trades (and protest to the commish if it is obviously lopsided) and have their word there will be no shananigans. (which again, I'm not saying I think there will be. I just know the possibilty exists at the end of a long season and feelings go a bit bonkers)

ps: if you want to hear our latest draft lottery from our other league you can download it at:
http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=175468950
sort by date. (SOYNFFL Podcast 2 - Draft Lottery 8/15/07)

listen to it. you know you want to!
